I approach designing learning experiences with joy, thoughtfulness, and creativity.
My Instructional Design Journey
Hello! Before I share my instructional designer journey, let me introduce myself. My name is David Maxwell, and I am a lifelong learner who enjoys aha moments in education (the main reason I became an instructional designer), which we will dive into later.
Education
I grew up near Dallas, Texas, and went on to earn a Bachelor's in Music Education at Texas Tech University. After four years of teaching middle school and high school band, I went back to Texas Tech, where I received my Master's in Instructional Technology. Upon completion, I moved to Seattle, Washington, to be closer to my now fiancée. We have recently moved to Austin, Texas, where we could be closer to family.
Instructional Design Experience
I have had the opportunity to create digital learning experiences for diverse audiences, including home care aides, cybersecurity experts, FEMA employees, marketing professionals, and VA executives. Throughout my journey as an Instructional Designer, I have continued to hone my skills by learning new tools, attending workshops, and taking online courses. My over four years of band directing experience, seven years as an instructional designer, my proven ability to connect with those I work with, and my aptitude to manage various tasks at once have helped me excel in my roles as an Instructional Designer.
Hobbies
Along with crafting learning experiences, I love spending time with family and friends, passionately watching my favorite sports teams (Texas Tech Red Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, and Dallas Mavericks), cooking with my wife, and playing the trumpet.

Let’s work together!
I’m always excited to connect with people and talk about all things Instructional Design.
